Ceramic Painting Workshop with Cary Norman

Spend the day designing and painting two beautiful wall plates with the wonderful Cary Norman. The wall plates can be used to celebrate any occasion – births, engagements, weddings or anything special or they could be just decorative and made up of illustrations or patterns inspired by something interesting. Cary will also be bringing some other blank pieces for those that finish early or wish to make more, these will be charged individually as an extra to be paid for on the day.
The Workshop:
- Cary will give a process description introduction.
- Plan and draw your designs for the wall plates (Please come armed with photos, designs or dates and names you might want to use.)
- Demonstration of how to use underglazes
- Transfer your design onto the plate
- Paint underglazes onto the plate
You will then repeat the process for the 2nd plate or any other extra blank ceramic piece/s which Cary will bring with her on the day.
**Cary will provide all the drawing equipment, underglazes and blank ceramic plates for you to decorate.
**Please bring an apron to protect your clothing.
At the end of the workshop Cary will take you pieces home to do the final top glazing & firing. Once completed by you can either arrange delivery with Cary or collect directly from Far From The Madding Crowd.
Coffee/tea and a light lunch and drinks are included.
Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists. Spaces are limited so please book early. The workshop will be held at Far From The Madding Crowd in the village of Leavenheath, CO6 4PU. We will be in touch nearer the time with the exact location and any further information. Tickets are non-refundable.
Bio:
Cary qualified as a typographic designer at the London College of Communication and worked running design studios for 10 years. She then moved to Suffolk and went on to complete a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and subsequently qualified as a lecturer in Art and Design at Suffolk New College, where she taught drawing, painting, history of art and 3D Design for nearly 20 years.
With Maryanne Nicholls she founded and ran DrawEast drawing courses for 10 years.
Cary makes sculptures from reclaimed copper, paints, draws and makes ceramics, regularly exhibiting her work as well as taking on private commissions.
Her work is colourful, bright and inspired by natural and familiar shapes, patterns and living forms.
