Hand Painting Lampshades with Alvaro Picardo

We are thrilled that the very talented Alvaro Picardo is returning this Autumn to teach us how to hand paint a beautiful handmade Coolie shade. If you love colour and design and would like to paint a beautiful card shade or up-cycle a disused lampshade that you have at home with our favourite Edward Bulmer Natural Paint, please do come along. 

The Workshop:

The workshop is completely hands on.

Alvaro will share all his tips and knowledge on hand-painted lampshades and you will be creating your own lampshade using some pre-planned designs which are relatively easy to follow. Alvaro will encourage you to be creative and will help you to make your design unique.

With a maximum of 8 students in the workshop, you should be taking your shade home with at least one coat of paint, it may need a second coat applied later on.

What’s included?

A 28 cm Coolie lampshade, brushes,  a selection of Edward Bulmer Natural Paint and a measurement tape will be provided. Please do bring your own lampshade to paint if you have one at home and any specific paint that you may want to use. An extra handmade 28cm coolie card shade can be purchased for an additional £25 should you want a pair- Please enquire when booking your space.

Coffee/tea and a light lunch and drinks are included.

Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists. Spaces are limited so please book early. The workshop will be held at Far From The Madding Crowd in the village of Leavenheath, CO6 4PU. We will be in touch nearer the time with the exact location and any further information. Tickets are non-refundable.

Bio:

Born in Barcelona, Alvaro moved to London nearly 30 years ago. Constantly inspired by his Catalan and Spanish roots, together with his love of modern art and brutalist architecture, he started painting lampshades with the aim of giving new life to otherwise forgotten objects, creating bespoke interior-design pieces. Through daring, colourful hand-painted lampshades he aims to provide a distinctive feeling to any space or room, enhancing its atmosphere by adding an individual work.

His work is being commissioned by leading UK and US interior designers and is featured in World of Interiors, House&Garden and British Vogue. Last year Alvaro developed a collection of hand-painted lampshades with iconic Swedish store Svenskt Tenn. Following its success he has recently designed a collection of lampshades for Studio Atkinson, and a collection of hand-painted wallpapers and fabrics for Spanish company Gancedo.
